01
Oversized is a cut, not a sizing mistake
A well-cut oversized T-shirt creates volume on purpose. The shoulder seam drops beyond the natural shoulder, the body widens without collapsing, and the sleeve gains presence without swallowing the hand. The effect should look composed from every angle, not like a conventional shirt purchased several sizes too large.
That distinction matters online. A standard tee sized up may become longer faster than it becomes wider. A true oversized pattern begins with a broader body, a deliberate drop at the shoulder, and proportions designed to work together.
02
Start with the shoulder
The shoulder line is the fastest way to read the silhouette. On an oversized tee, the seam should sit beyond the shoulder bone and the sleeve should fall from that lower point. The line should remain clean rather than bunching high at the neck or twisting toward the front.
Then look at the collar. A wider body needs a collar with enough structure to hold the frame. A substantial rib collar keeps the neckline deliberate and prevents the upper half of the garment from looking washed out.
03
Measure a garment, not your memory
The most reliable comparison is a T-shirt you already like. Lay it flat without stretching it. Measure straight across from armpit to armpit for width, from the highest shoulder point to the hem for length, and from the shoulder seam to the sleeve edge for sleeve length.
Compare those numbers with the product measurements rather than relying only on the letter printed in the neck. A medium in one pattern can carry more volume than a large in another. The measurements tell you what the garment will actually occupy.
- Width controls the volume through the body.
- Length controls where the hem meets the trouser or hip line.
- Sleeve length changes the visual weight of the upper arm.

Choose the silhouette you mean
If you want the intended Campagne silhouette, begin with your usual size and compare its garment measurements. Size down only when you want a closer, less architectural fit. Avoid sizing up automatically: the pattern already carries the dropped shoulder and extra width that create the oversized line.
Fit is ultimately a proportion between garment and wearer. The correct choice is the one that keeps the shoulder relaxed, the collar clean, and the hem at a length that works with the rest of your wardrobe.
